May Update

May has been a fun and exciting month for the Love INC ministry. Fun because God has been incredibly good to build a strong spirit of unity among the volunteers as they serve the community. Exciting because we can’t help but feel like God is on the verge of doing an even greater work in our ministry to reach people in the community for Jesus Christ. Here are some highlights from each of the core Love INC ministries.

We hope you will join us in thanksgiving for the ways God is using this ministry for His purposes and consider how you might begin or continue to play a part in it!

We saw 13 new individuals this past month and were able to share the love of Christ with them as we helped direct them to helpful resources within our community. We are excited to be implementing an improved intake process that will allow us to better resource folks and follow-up with them through more intentional relationship and prayer.

Our hope is that this process will be solidified by the time we welcome our two new GFU social work interns in August, KariAnna and Elijah, so that they can help us develop more transformative relationships with clients!

Our Transitional Living Program continues to blossom with our changeover from being an emergency shelter to a transitional living program.

The latest change that we’ve incorporated is bringing on board two Bachelor of Social Work graduates to live in the shelter and serve as Resident Managers. Kaitlyn Bradshaw and Miranda Edwords’ presence has been a huge blessing to the ladies.

We are very excited to have a constant presence in the shelter, but that doesn’t mean we don’t need shelter hosts! The hosts are the prime relationships that the women build with our Christian community, and still essential to the foundation of the shelter.

Relational Ministry is going strong! Attendance has been very high and our clients’ relationships with mentors are going very well. In fact, “mentor time” has been going over time by an average of 20 minutes!

We’ve also had the privilege of having several prominent community members come and speak on important financial and legal issues. Esther Frank from First Community Credit Union shared on the differences between credit unions and banks, and City Attorney Truman Stone stopped by to provide an overview of basic legal information for clients.

These classes and presentations continue to help our clients work through challenging issues they are going through.

Summer is shaping up to hold some promising new things for Love INC and we look forward to sharing them with you. Please join us in prayer that good fruit would continue to be born as a result of Christians coming together to change lives in Newberg!
