A simple intake conversation, a listening ear, and a moment of prayer reminded one woman that she is not alone and that God’s love is still present in her story. When someone walks through the doors of Love INC Newberg for the first time, they often carry more than practical needs. They carry worry, uncertainty, and the quiet weight of trying to navigate life’s challenges alone. Recently, a woman arrived at our Connection Center feeling nervous and overwhelmed by financial strain. But by the time she left, something had shifted - hope had begun to take root. Like many neighbors who visit Love INC for the first time, she wasn’t sure what to expect. Asking for help can feel vulnerable, especially when someone is navigating a season of financial strain and feeling overwhelmed by the circumstances around them. At Love INC Newberg, our intake appointments are designed to be more than a checklist of needs. Trained volunteers from our Connection Center take time to sit with each person, listen to their story, and walk through possible next steps with compassion and dignity. On this particular day, one of our volunteers spent time listening as the woman shared the challenges she had been facing. Together they began exploring possible resources and solutions that might help lighten the burden she was carrying. Sometimes those next steps include connecting individuals with GAP Ministries for practical household needs, scheduling a Bills & Budget appointment, exploring Transformational Ministry classes, or simply sharing places in the community where people can find a warm meal and welcoming fellowship. But just as important as practical support is the relationship that begins in these moments. Before the appointment ended, the volunteer asked if she could pray for her. She gladly accepted. Prayer is something our team offers because we believe every person who walks through our doors is deeply loved by God and worthy of care and compassion. For many people, that simple moment of prayer becomes one of the most meaningful parts of their visit. After the prayer, the woman paused and shared something that deeply encouraged our team. She expressed her heartfelt thanks to Love INC and said that being listened to, cared for, and prayed for reminded her that others truly care about her and that God loves her and cares for her as well. The nervousness she had arrived with began to give way to hope and gratitude. Later, the volunteer reflected on the moment with our team, sharing how meaningful the interaction had been. Experiences like this reignite the hearts of those who serve and remind us why the ministry exists. While practical help matters deeply, our greater hope is always to point people beyond their immediate circumstances toward lasting transformation - toward the love of Jesus Christ and the goodness of our Father in Heaven, who is the true provider of hope.
