God Our Provider

At Northside Community Church, the Non Food Pantry ministry was facing a challenge. With supplies dwindling and costs mounting, the future seemed uncertain. But then, like a ray of sunshine breaking through the clouds, a surprise arrived. A generous community member, moved by compassion, sent $1,500 worth of essentials: soap, detergent, toothbrushes, toilet paper, and more. It was a reminder, a gentle whisper from above, that God provides in unexpected ways.

"Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!" - Luke 12:24

Love Beyond Walls

When we received a request to assist an Afghan refugee family with bicycles, our hearts were touched. Housed by the Presbyterian Church in Beaverton, this family, led by a father and encompassing seven children, faced the challenges of a tragic loss—the passing of their wife and mother during childbirth. Despite their hardship, their resilience shone through as they sought a means of transportation.

Without hesitation, the leader of our Bike Ministry at First Presbyterian stepped up, offering to gather bicycles to support this family on their journey. In a beautiful display of solidarity and generosity, we rallied together to provide not just bikes, but a symbol of freedom and independence for a family in need.

These moments remind us of the power of compassion and the beauty of coming together to uplift those facing adversity. Through simple acts of kindness, we can make a profound impact and spread love beyond our immediate community.

"Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrifices."- Hebrews 13:16

Through the Lens of God's grace

A client "Linda" walked into Love INC needing a lot—food, clothes, gas cards, and help with her dogs. On top of that, Linda wanted support to get her life back on track—finding work, legal aid, and even a place of her own. It was a tough situation, but we were ready for the challenge.

We didn't merely provide material support; we saw Linda through the lens of God's grace. Connecting her with resources for essentials like clothes and food, offering shelter options, and providing guidance on employment and legal matters became an act of faith in action.

Even in the small details like a scheduled haircut and assistance with her suspended license, we saw God's hand at work. Linda's gratitude wasn't just for Love INC; it was a recognition that, in challenging times, we are instruments of God's love and support.

In these moments, Love INC becomes a conduit of God's compassion, helping individuals like Linda navigate challenges and take steps toward a future guided by faith and hope.

"Don’t forget to do good and to share what you have because God is pleased with these kinds of sacrifices."- Hebrews 13:16

The Gift of Sight

Love INC recently hosted a vision van, offering our clients the invaluable gift of complete eye exams and brand-new glasses. Amid the wait for the tech, a conversation unfolded in the waiting area.

One client shared a newfound passion for baking, excitedly revealing plans to kickstart a small cottage business to ease financial strains. The atmosphere was filled with encouragement for her budding venture. Another client expressed excitement about an upcoming relational ministry class, igniting interest in those around her. On the spot, she shared the sign-up link, fostering instant connections.

In this gathering, not only did some receive the gift of sight, but it was complemented by the exchange of affirming words and the joy of new relationships blossoming. It's a beautiful testament to the impactful moments that unfold when individuals come together.

"And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity."- Colossians 3:14

From a Hesed House Graduate

A special message from a Hesed House graduate to our Women's Transitional Living Program Director 💙

From Sarah, who just graduated from the Hesed House and settled into her new apartment:

"Beth—how can I express my gratitude for being my guiding light (and occasional cheerleader) these past six months? You and your incredible team have awakened and blessed me in ways I can't fathom. My journey towards God has deepened, and I'm flourishing. Excited to venture into my new neighborhood—already made friends with a couple of furry pals, and the warm welcome from fellow humans is heartwarming."

The heavens are rejoicing! Thank you Lord for new beginnings!

"Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be."-Job 8:7

Gifts from God

In a recent Bills and Budget session at Love INC, a volunteer gently advised a client, "Ellen" on the path to financial independence: lower expenses or increase income. After discussing strategies, they prayed together and the Ellen left feeling uplifted.

Days later, the prayer bore fruit. A thriving side hustle aligned with the Ellen's skills emerged, covering expenses and instilling a newfound sense of self-worth.

This brief but impactful journey illuminated the profound truth that God saw value in her all along. At Love INC, it's a testament to the transformative power of prayer, support, and realizing the gift that God has given us.

"Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms." 1 Peter 4:10

Building Connections

A new client "Tim" faced a dilemma: how to pick up items from the gaps. Filled with concern, he reached out for guidance. Our office team suggested reaching out to a friend, neighbor, or perhaps someone from his church who could lend a hand.

Undeterred, Tim took the advice to heart. With newfound courage, he approached someone at his church and asked for assistance. The response was positive, and to his delight, he successfully picked up the much-needed items.

His excitement was contagious, and at Love INC, we celebrated not just the resolution of a logistical obstacle but the creation of a new connection. In overcoming a challenge, he not only received practical help but also forged a meaningful friendship. This story reflects the essence of Love INC's mission — not just addressing immediate needs but fostering a sense of community and support that goes beyond the surface. It's a testament to the transformative power of reaching out and the joy that comes from both giving and receiving help.

Faith to Move Mountains

A client named "Naomi" reached out to us in despair. She lost custody of her child and was yearning for a positive change in her life. She was feeling lost and uncertain about her future, so we offered her resources and kept her in our prayers, hoping for her guidance and healing.

To our surprise, just an hour later, Naomi called us back. "Prayers do get answered! It's incredible," she exclaimed with joy. She had been struggling with the high costs of recovery facilities and the lack of insurance, which had initially seemed like insurmountable obstacles. But her faith in God kept her going.

With the help of a compassionate individual, Naomi managed to enroll in OHP (Oregon Health Plan) over the phone. This newfound support led her to a detox facility and a few months later, she received custody of her child again.

Naomi's story beautifully illustrates the power of compassion, prayer, and unshakable faith in God. It also reminds us of Hebrews 11:1, which says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see."Faith can indeed move mountains.

From a Relational Ministry Student

I'm a 64-year-old individual coping with severe anxiety and chronic physical disabilities. Previously, I resided with my daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids. Unfortunately, my daughter and son-in-law separated, leaving me without a home. This is when Love INC entered my life. I spent three months at Hesed House and now have my own apartment. During this time, I've participated in Life Skills, Faith and Finance, Grief Classes, and I'm presently enrolled in Strengthfinders. The people I've encountered and the knowledge gained through these courses have not only given me back my life but also reminded me of my inner strength. I can't express my gratitude enough. I feel immensely blessed to have Love INC and everyone associated with it in my life. Despite losing most of my family over the years, I've found a new family. Thank you, Love INC, from the bottom of my heart.

"I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me."- Philippians 4:13

In His Arms

Despite three months of unsuccessful attempts to connect with our client, "Denise," she finally came through our doors. One of our wonderful volunteers spent an hour speaking with her and going over her financial situation. Although the meeting was primarily focused on her bills, the volunteer took the time to actively listen to her, asked questions, and ended the session with a prayer.

We've learned that simply passing along bills for a small payment doesn't necessarily help our clients in the long run. Instead, we strive to show them love, build relationships, and share the love of Jesus in the process. Our approach is centered on the person, not just their finances.

"Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God, and whoever loves has been born of God and knows God. Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love."

- 1 John 4:7-8

Spreading Compassion

In a time of desperate need, a man named "John" reached out to Love INC for help. Struggling with the loss of his job, John found himself falling behind on rent and facing the terrifying prospect of eviction. When he came to us, our hearts went out to him, and we knew we had to do everything in our power to assist.

Thankfully, we were able to guide him to various agencies for assistance, and he was overwhelmed with gratitude. With our support and the help of other organizations and his family, he avoided homelessness.

The most touching moment was when he learned that his baby boy could come back home. The overwhelming happiness in his voice echoed the significance of our efforts. It was a reminder of why we do what we do—to make a real difference in people's lives, no matter how challenging their circumstances may be.

We are so grateful for the chance to continue making a difference and spreading love and compassion.

"As we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are in our community." - Colossians 3:23

He Hears Our Prayers

A client named "Olivia" reached out to us in search of an alcohol detox facility, yearning for a positive change in her life. She was feeling lost and uncertain about her future, so we offered her resources and kept her in our prayers, hoping for her guidance and healing.

To our surprise, just an hour later, Olivia called us back. "Prayers do get answered! It's incredible," she exclaimed with joy. She had been struggling with the high costs of facilities and the lack of insurance, which had initially seemed like insurmountable obstacles. But her faith in God kept her going.

With the help of a compassionate individual, Olivia managed to enroll in OHP (Oregon Health Plan) over the phone. This newfound support led her to a detox facility that welcomed her three days later.

Olivia's story beautifully illustrates the power of compassion, prayer, and unshakable faith in God. It also reminds us of Hebrews 11:1, which says, "Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see." Faith can indeed move mountains.” 💙

God Changes Hearts

This time of year can be tough for many people. The cold weather, holiday pressures, and past issues often bring up feelings of inadequacy, trauma, loneliness, and the pain of broken relationships. Sometimes, people say hurtful things or show negative emotions, especially during this season.

But recently, something heartwarming happened. Someone who had been unkind came back a few days later with handwritten apology notes. It was a thoughtful gesture that not only made things better but also showed us that people can change and strive to be better versions of themselves. It's a reminder that even when things get tough, kindness and growth are possible.

"Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come."-2 Corinthians 5:17

The Simple Things

In our Linen Ministry last month, we had an interesting day. Towards the end of our shift, the last person to visit needed two sets of twin sheets and blankets. Sadly, we were completely out of both. We had to break the news that all we had left were Christmas flannel sheets. Surprisingly, she just laughed it off and said it was better than having nothing at all.

We started talking, and she casually mentioned that Christmas was just around the corner. Now, when it came to blankets, all we had were ones with Christmas designs. She chuckled again and said, "Well, at least they'll match." Her easygoing attitude really brightened our day.

As she left, she chuckled one more time, joking about hoping her husband wouldn't have the same taste in festive linens. It turned out to be quite an amusing day for everyone involved. Thank God for the simple things. 💙

Special Message From a RM student

Special Message From a RM student💙

"Last semester I took a leap and started taking classes at Love INC. The first class I ever attended was the finance class. At first I did not know what to expect but I quickly realized how much this class was actually helping me. This finance class taught me how to manage my finances, stick to a monthly budget, save money, donate and it also taught me how to achieve my goals. Once this class ended I knew all I needed to know because of how much I learned from my insturctors and my mentor. Thankfully, I was able to purchase a new car once my old one broke down because of all the knowledge I acquired from this class. I just want to thank everyone again and I look forward to all the other classes provided by Love INC so I can continue to grow. Thanks so much!"
